Race for Cebu

Denise and Ivy Igloria are long time members of our Moon Joggers family and are from Cebu, Philippines.   They joined us in 2013 and have been inspiring and supportive members of our community.  Their family was recently hit by Typhoon Odette. Thankfully they are all alive and well, but their home suffered a lot of damage.  The following is from Denise:

"Hi Guys! We are all safe. No injuries only property damage. Our roof flew. We have no electricity and scarce drinking water. long lines in every gas stations, water refilling stations. internet and mobile communication are down in our vicinity. My daughter and I have to bike to the nearest mall 8 kilometers away to get the needed mobile signal and charge our mobile devices and lights. Cebu badly needs help. The last time Cebu was hit with a Cat5 storm was in 1990 Typhoon Mike 180mph similar path with Odette but was much stronger. Cebu survived that. We know we can survive this one too. Again, thank you for all your prayers and support."

Below is information on Typhoon Odette, which made landfall on December 17th:

Over 300 people have reportedly died due to the onslaught of Typhoon Odette, the country's disaster agency reported.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported on Friday Christmas eve that typhoon-related deaths already stands at 326.

The number of missing persons is 58, with 661 listed as injured.

All these figures are still up for validation, the NDRRMC said.

Affected by the typhoon were over 3 million people in 5,508 villages in Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, and Soccsksargen.

During Odette's onslaught, a total of 352,384 persons or 83,903 families sought refuge in evacuation centers.

Cities and municipalities, 273 of them, also experienced power outage. Electricity has only been restored in 149 areas so far.

As for water supply, just one in the four areas with issues experienced restoration.

Meanwhile, there were 348,642 houses that were damaged all in all. Of this number, 228,156 were partially destroyed while 120,486 were totally devastated.
